Disclosure & Barring Service Increases Fee’s
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has increased the cost of its DBS fee’s which will come into effect from 2nd December 2024.
Government price rises are beyond our control and will impact all DBS providers, we at Staffvetting will not increase our admin prices and commit to continuing to provide a professional, low cost and reliable service.
Current DBS Fee | Enhanced | Standard | Basic |
£38.00 | £18.00 | £18.00 | |
New DBS Fee (from 2nd December 2024) | Enhanced | Standard | Basic |
£49.50 | £21.50 | £21.50 |
Pricing structure for a full DBS Check is:
DBS Charge + Staffvetting Admin Fee + VAT – The DBS Charge is the element which is being increased by the Government.
These increases will affect all DBS checks as well as other checks that include a DBS as part of a wider range of checks.
BPSS checks; typically include a Basic DBS so the change in DBS charge will affect the price of these checks.
BS7858 checks; these checks usually include a Basic DBS which means they will also be subject to the change in DBS charges.
BS7858 SIA checks; these will be unaffected by these changes, as these would not usually include a Basic DBS check.
Bespoke checks; these checks usually include a Basic DBS which means they will also be subject to the change in DBS charges.
What Do I Need to Do?
- Inform Your Teams: Please ensure that relevant colleagues and departments—especially those handling invoices—are aware of these changes.
- Process Pending Checks Now: To avoid higher costs, we recommend processing any pending DBS checks before 2nd December 2024. Doing so could result in significant savings for your organisation.
Acting early will save your business a significant amount of money, so get these applications in and submitted before 2nd December 2024.

Digital ID Verification Is Here!
Digital ID Verification has arrived, August 2022
“On 27 December 2021, the government announced its intention to enable employers and landlords to use certified digital identity service providers to carry out identity checks on their behalf for many who are not in scope to use the Home Office online services, including British and Irish citizens. The legislation will take effect from 6 April 2022.
This development will align with the Disclosure and Barring Service’s (DBS) proposal to enable digital identity checking within their criminal record checking process, through the introduction of its Identity Trust Scheme.”

What this means and what we’re doing
As a Responsible Organisation and Registered Body who process thousands of criminal records checks each year, we are delighted by this opportunity.
It will save time, effort and cost, but more importantly, it will allow people to have control over who they share their digital identity with and to provide instant evidence to prospective employers or landlords, or other parties, asking them to verify who they are. This will help reduce identity fraud too.
Our system will allow people to upload their passport and driving licence and verify them in real-time. The applicant will also need to take a selfie and say a few words to the camera in certain cases too, as an extra step.
Employers will be able to ask potential employees to verify themselves and see a rapid result which will speed up the recruitment process and enable employers to have even greater confidence that the person has the right to work in the UK.
This new technology will also speed up applications for criminal background checks, which require applicants to provide ID and address documents.
- We are in the process of reviewing how to integrate this technology with our own systems and processes to make the background checks and screening process even quicker and more secure.
Our FAQ explains how digital ID verification will work and benefit everyone.

Right to Work Update – BRC, BRP and FWP holders
Right to Work update
The way in which Biometric Residence Card (BRC), Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and Frontier Worker (FWP) holders evidence their right to work is changing.
- From 6 April 2022, BRC, BRP and FWP holders will evidence their right to work using the Home Office online service only, presentation of a physical document will no longer be acceptable.
This means:
From 6 April 2022, employers will no longer be able to accept or check a physical BRP, BRC or FWP as valid proof of right to work, even if it shows a later expiry date.
Employers do not need to retrospectively check the status of BRC or BRP holders who were employed up to and including 5 April 2022. Employers will maintain a statutory excuse against any civil penalty if the initial checks were undertaken in line with the guidance that applied at the time the check was made.
What are right to work checks?
Employers must check that all job applicants have a lawful immigration in the UK before entering into employment, to avoid being liable for a civil penalty.
There are two types of right to work checks: an online check and a manual check. The type of check employers are required to conduct will depend on the status of the job applicant.
An online right to work check is required for all BRC, BRP and FWP holders, as well as individuals who only hold digital proof of their immigration status in the UK.
To carry out an online right to work check, employers will need the applicant’s date of birth and their share code, which they will have obtained online. For further information for employers on how to use the online services, guidance is available on GOV.UK:
To complete the online right to work check, employers will enter the job applicant’s details by visiting the ‘checker’ side of the service on GOV.UK:
Updated guidance on how to conduct a right to work check on BRC, BRP and FWP holders from 6 April 2022 will be published shortly on GOV.UK.

BS7858 CONDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT SCREENING & SUPPORTING EVIDENCE
Due to recent changes within the new BS7858:2019 Screening Standard, we now need to ask for relevant supporting documentary evidence for all Applicants where Conditional Employment checks will be completed as part of their BS7858:2019 Screening.
Conditional Employment is dependent on the completion of two elements – Preliminary Checks (ID, Sanctions and Credit Check) and Limited Screening – Verification of last 3-year career history, either orally or by way of supporting evidence.
With many companies implementing strict GDPR processes regarding providing written references only, it is therefore vital that sufficient supporting documents for career history are uploaded at the start to avoid any potential delays in our processing and to allow you to confidently place your staff on client sites, particularly for those within the Security Industry, while the remainder of the full screening is being completed.
For further information on this, please visit our website. We have a short helpful video which you may find useful to share with your Applicants: https://staffvetting.com/support/bs7858support/

The Air Training Corps is the name of the RAF Air Cadet organisation and it provides numerous opportunities to young people between the ages of 12 and 20 and the normal operating numbers at the unit are between 20 and 30 cadets. Steve Kirtley, Former Officer Commanding at the Squadron said, ‘We are delighted Staffvetting.com have assisted in helping towards the cost of our vehicle. This vehicle is of invaluable use and allows us to take the young cadets to various activities and transport them on visits that previously wasn’t possible’.
The young cadets are given the opportunity to partake in many different activities and by attending they earn qualifications which are useful not only in military circumstances but also in civil life. As such the Air Training Corps is a registered charity which need funding locally, this funding is vital when not all young people come from a background where money is readily available to pay for these opportunities.
Managing Director, Stephen Brown at Staffvetting.com fully understands the need for this funding adding, ‘Our ‘First Steps’ policy at Staffvetting.com which is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility is instrumental in having a positive impact in our local community and helping both children and adults realise their dream and therefore making a positive difference.
